Wednesday, Oct. 18 is Ezra’s birthday. His family is providing a pizza lunch and birthday cake that day. Thanks much, Ezra!
Hopefully, you received your child’s yellow Conference schedule note in the Thursday purple Reading Folder. Let me know if you have a conflict with the time. Conferences will be held in the classrooms. Visit the Book Fair being held in the Atrium.
Next week I will stop sending a paper copy of the weekly Newsletter; instead you can look for the weekly news on the class website only: gracerf1.weebly.com
Enclosed in Folder:
Religion: This week we’ll learn a little about Martin Luther, someone willing to stand up for the truth about God’s free gift of grace to the world during a time in Germany when church leaders were not in agreement. This year, the Lutheran Church honors Luther; 500 years ago he posted a declaration, the 95 Sentences, on a church door in Wittenberg, Germany.
Language Arts: Review of the first unit in our Wonders reading books. This week we’ll review the stories, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and punctuation rules. Thanks for listening to your child practice reading at home. A unit test will be held later in the week.
Math: We wrap up the chapter, Addition and Subtraction Strategies, this week.
Social Studies: Learning about a citizen, Mary McCloud Bethune, who helped her community school be a better place for children of all backgrounds to attend. Also, making predictions about school in the future.
Science: Investigate: How do you know the mass of objects? By using a balance scale, we’ll measure the mass of an empty cup and then one with beans in it. Little one-gram cubes are used to measure weight. We’ll try other items to weigh and compare.
